About David's Concrete Innovations

David’s Patio was founded in 1962 when David Grimmett began his statuary business in Briar, Texas, a few miles from the present location.  Initially a partnership, Mr. Grimmett soon took over the entire business, and bought two acres of land in Springtown in 1964.  The business was then named David’s Patio, and was exclusively involved in the manufacture and finishing of concrete statuary products.  Starting with only a few molds, he began to pour the products and make contact with local wholesalers.  He would then pour, finish, paint and deliver the products himself.

The business began to grow, and Mr. Grimmett built a small retail store on the two acre site, where he and his family also lived.  At the time, this was truly a family business, with his father, his wife and his daughters all participating.

In the fall of 1972, with business continuing to expand, two key hires were made in the production area.  One of these hires remained here for over 35 years, and the other is still with the company today, indicating the culture and family tradition of the business that has been maintained throughout the years.

The mid 1970’s brought dramatic growth, and three new building sections were added to the retail store.  New customers, including major national retailers, came on board to supplement the local market base of family owned nurseries in and around the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  The customer base expansion continued into the 1980’s, at which time Mr. Grimmett had the foresight to execute a horizontal expansion, and began manufacturing building blocks and related concrete products.  He purchased an additional four acres of land at the original site, but soon found this inadequate space for his growing business. He then purchased thirty acres about one mile from the existing property and began the building block plant on that location, where it operates today.

Subsequent to Mr. Grimmett’s death in 2001, the company continued under the direction of Mr. Grimmett’s wife, Cecilia.  Her son, Mark O’Reilly, who had started working at the lower levels of the business, grew into his role today as President of the company.  Mr. O’Reilly is partnered with his wife, Jacki, who oversees the accounting, administrative and sales duties for the company, as well as his mother, Cecilia, Tammy Billen, a multi-talented accounting assistant and Mary Woodruff, a long time administrative assistant since 1977.

In response to number of telephone calls requesting on-site installation of patios, retaining walls, and other outdoor features, as well as the number of callers who discovered David’s through persistence or accident, our name was legally changed to David’s Concrete Innovations in June 2009.

Today the company’s two operations continue, in addition to the retail store.  The statuary and block plants each employ about 50 – 60 workers, and there is an ever increasing emphasis on product quality, customer satisfaction and improved management.
